who is emma?
Explaining who you are to the world in a few paragraphs is an intimidating task, especially when you’re learning more about yourself every day. Here is my attempt:
Growing up, I was often called a “free spirit.” I didn’t fully understand what this meant until I recently stepped back and viewed my life from an outside perspective. Wherever I went, I was so intensely “Emma.” I made friends in every situation because I loved meeting and learning about new people. I was ambitious about my passions, and I loved telling others I was born to be an artist. I unapologetically voiced my thoughts and feelings because I was deeply passionate about my values.
My way of going through life has never changed. There were times when it was difficult to accept my vibrant personality. Now, as an adult, I can see that this way of living has allowed me to be the happy, fortunate person I am today. It has led me to say yes to new opportunities, even when I am skeptical. It has led me to form lifelong friendships with incredible people. It has led me to explore the world and experience different cultures. It has led to my confidence in myself both as a person and an artist.
what about fashion?
In August of 2021, I started my education at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. Throughout my first year in art foundations, I was constantly debating whether I should pursue photography or fashion design.
After the first week of classes in fashion design, I knew I had chosen the right major. Nothing else had intimidated, yet fascinated me, more than fashion.
In high school, I developed a deep passion for sustainability and ethics in the fashion industry. This is something I carried with me throughout college, making an effort to educate myself and others on the topic. I was a programming coordinator for the club EcoFashion, as well as an events planner for the outreach program PopUp Stop. Through these affiliations, as well as taking courses on the subject, I became fixated with finding solutions to the ongoing issues in the industry.
